Vari Vilasa - A dance of water
The site features an existing rainwater collection pit —an infrastructural element rooted in function. Our architectural intervention seeks to elevate this utilitarian feature into a central narrative of the design. Rather than merely storing water, we envision a built form that engages with rain as a sensory and spatial experience.
The architecture leans into the idea of rainwater harvesting not just as a sustainable practice, but as a poetic gesture—guiding the flow of water through and around the building in a choreographed, dance-like manner. Runnels, channels, and reflective surfaces transform rainfall into a living element of the architecture, allowing the building to respond to the monsoon with grace, rhythm, and reverence. In doing so, the design becomes a canvas for nature’s choreography, where water is both resource and ritual.
